When Jonathan realized there was someone living in one of the electric boxes where he works, he decided he had to evict her. The little mouse had created a nice home for herself inside the box, but Jonathan didn’t love the idea as much as she did. He opened up the box to tell her it was time to go, and suddenly realized she’d been hiding something.
“It’s a lot harder when there’s a family involved,” Jonathan wrote on TikTok.
It turns out that the mouse hadn’t made a home inside the box for no reason. She was a mom, and she needed a safe place to keep her babies.
Once Jonathan realized the mouse had a family, his entire outlook on the situation changed. He named her Reba after the song “I’m a Survivor” and decided he was going to protect her at all costs, and all of TikTok quickly rallied behind him and his quest.
“I want proof of life every hour on the hour,” one commenter wrote.
Jonathan brought peanut butter and seeds for the hardworking mama, a “welcome to the neighborhood” present of sorts. Reba hasn’t been home every time he’s gone back to check on her, but he has gotten a few more glimpses of her growing babies.
“I’m invested at this point,” another commenter wrote. “Checking daily for updates.”
Despite not being on board at first, Jonathan is now invested too, and every time he sees Reba and her babies, it brings him joy. He’s talked about building her and her babies a little mouse condo and has a trail camera on the way so he can keep a closer eye on everything going on inside the box.
“I hope this makes everybody’s day like it did mine,” Jonathan wrote.
Jonathan went from being an angry landlord to a gracious host, and animal lovers everywhere are thrilled to see it.
