CLEVELAND, Ohio — Moments after dealing former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber to Toronto, the Guardians completed another trade, this time with an American League Central Division rival.
Cleveland sent veteran right-hander Paul Sewald to the Tigers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, the club confirmed.
Sewald, 35, is currently on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. It marks the second trip to the IL this season for Sewald due to a shoulder issue. He initially missed two months starting in late April and returned on July 5 after recovering from a right posterior deltoid strain.
In 18 appearances for Cleveland, Sewald was 1-1 with a 4.70 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. He signed a one-year contract worth a reported $7 million in January.
