Take-Two boss, Strauss Zelnick, has officially spoken on the price of GTA VI, preparing gamers for what’s to come.
The price of GTA VI has been long debated over the past year, with many industry analysts speculating that Rockstar Games would opt to charge $100 for the blockbuster release.
As the industry starts to usher in an $80 price bracket for premium titles, players fear for their wallets and being able to keep up with the hobby that means so much to them.
Speaking to Variety, ahead of a quarterly earnings call, Zelnick took time to discuss the company’s view on the current pricing discussion.
“So now that announcement will come from Rockstar in due time,” began Zelnick.
What he said next doesn’t make the situation any clearer, but he does hint at the thinking of pricing for upcoming games.
“Our goal, always, is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we’ve had variable pricing at the company forever.”
Following this, Zelnick said, “As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing.”
The Take-Two CEO goes on to reiterate that the experience is the most important thing to them, with Rockstar Games working hard to deliver the best game they can.
Take what you will from Zelnick’s interview. On the one hand, he could be pointing to a lower price point than has been speculated, offering even more value.
Or, he could be hinting that Rockstar Games is focused on making a great game, and they will charge more for special editions in order to drive up profits from die-hard fans.
As the year wears on, we’re likely to get news on the confirmed price directly from Rockstar Games.
