An industry insider and journalist with a proven track record has speculated on a potential second delay for Grand Theft Auto 6, which could push its release date from May to October 2026. While Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has reassured fans that Rockstar is confident in Grand Theft Auto 6‘s new release date, reports continue to emerge from various industry insiders, leakers, and journalists that suggest a second delay is increasingly likely.
The Grand Theft Auto series is one of gaming’s biggest franchises, and it seems as though anticipation for each installment is always bigger than the last. But as it has currently been 12 years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5, hype for the next entry in the series is at an all-time high. Rockstar finally pulled back the curtain on Grand Theft Auto 6 with its first trailer back in 2023, but the studio then went silent on fans for two years before finally releasing the game’s second trailer earlier this year. Unfortunately, the trailer came just days after the studio announced a delay for Grand Theft Auto 6, which pushed its release window from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026.
Journalist Speculates on Second GTA 6 Delay
After news of a delay was made official, it didn’t take long for fans to start speculating on a potential second delay for Grand Theft Auto 6. In a recent episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, journalist Tom Henderson, who has a proven track record on big titles such as Grand Theft Auto 6, Battlefield, Call of Duty, and more, speculated that Grand Theft Auto 6 may be pushed back from its May 2026 release date to October 2026. “I don’t think that it is gonna release in May,” Henderson said. While this is solely speculation from the journalist, he does state that he has heard “rumblings” that suggest a second delay is possible. However, Henderson also notes that it’s not enough to corroborate or report on officially.
Henderson believes an October release date is likely, but, again, this is simply speculation from the insider. It also contradicts a different report from YouTuber Luke Stephens, who recently claimed to have an insider source “high-up” in the publishing industry. The report seemed to be good news for Grand Theft Auto 6, as Stephens claimed that his source, who reportedly has connections with developers at Rockstar Games, has been told that the studio is very confident in its May 2026 release date for Grand Theft Auto 6.
As there are still eight months left until its release, Rockstar itself may not even have concrete plans for a second delay at this point. The studio is well-known for delaying its titles in order to achieve perfection, but many fans often point out that when Rockstar decides on a specific release date and not just a rough launch window, it often sticks to its plans. This was also reiterated by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who discussed the GTA 6 delay back in May and appeared confident that there would not be a second delay.
