GTA 6 Boss Talks Possibility Of Another Delay And Teases Multiple Other Rockstar Games

Take-Two’s top boss, Strauss Zelnick, has come out to say he’s feeling confident that GTA 6 will not be delayed again, while also confirming Rockstar has multiple other games in the works right now.

Speaking to CNBC, Zelnick was asked to state his level of conviction about GTA 6 coming out on time on May 26, 2026. He replied, “My level of conviction is very, very high, obviously.”

He added: “We try not to pump expectations. Rockstar’s whole stock and trade is to have these extraordinary expectations and still beat them. I know that’s their goal. I know it’s going to be an amazing game.”

Zelnick has previously said Rockstar is seeking “perfection” with GTA 6, and that takes time. More recently, Zelnick said he’s not going to claim success before it occurs, even if all the signs are pointing to GTA 6 become a smash hit.

“While I couldn’t be more optimistic than I am, all of us have to do the work. We have to deliver something great to consumers and then the consumers are going to tell us just how great it is,” he said.

GTA 6 was originally slated to arrive in Fall 2025 before Rockstar delayed the game to May 2026 to give the team more time to polish and refine it. A report said the Fall 2025 date was never a real one, however. Its delay was no surprise, either, as Rockstar basically always delays its games.

In regards to other upcoming projects from Rockstar, Zelnick said, “Rockstar does have a lot of other things going on, but [GTA 6] is of course the primary focus.” He didn’t name any future titles outright, but it’s been reported that Rockstar is working on a GTA 4 remaster and a port of Red Dead Redemption II for Switch 2. Rockstar is also said to be working on a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S edition of Red Dead Redemption II.re

The rumored GTA 4 remaster and reported new versions of Red Dead Redemption II are said to be coming later in 2025. Rockstar is also collaborating with Remedy on Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes.

GTA 6 is expected to be a blockbuster success, with one company predicting 40 million in sales in the first year alone. The game is expected to come to PC at a later date, creating a second selling cycle for the open-world game.

GTA 6 being delayed into 2026 was tough news for the overall gaming market, too, as one research firm predicted that the video game industry was relying on GTA 6 in 2025 to help turn things around. While GTA 6 has slipped to 2026, this year sees the release of both Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6, and it’s the first time in a half-decade that there have been new entries in both franchises launching the same year.
