A Harbin Clinic surgeon has been the first in northwest Georgia to perform an innovative robotic surgery that offers relief to men with enlarged prostates. The surgery was completed at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.
Aquablation therapy uses a real-time, ultrasound-guided, robotic-assisted, heat-free waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue. The combination of the camera and ultrasound allows a doctor to see the entire prostate in real time for a precise procedure.
The surgery uses the AI-powered HYDROS Robotic System, which is clinically proven to provide significant relief for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) while helping preserve urinary (continence) and sexual function.
“This is another surgical procedure at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center that uses robotics to provide better outcomes and improve the patient experience,” said Dr. Ken Jones, chief physician officer.
Common symptoms of BPH include the need to urinate immediately or urgently, urinating more often than normal and urinating frequently at night.
It is estimated that half of men between the ages of 51-60 have BPH and 99% of men say it impacts their quality of life. The HYDROS waterjet technology allows surgeons to create a personalized treatment plan that precisely targets which prostate tissue to remove and which to preserve.
Without timely treatment, BPH can lead to permanent bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones and incontinence.
“Aquablation brings precision to BPH treatment, allowing men to reclaim their lifestyles and find relief from symptoms while not having to worry about sexual side effects,” said Dr. Robert Williams, a urologist at Harbin Clinic who performed the surgery.”
