The Memphis Grizzlies have suspended Ja Morant for one game for conduct detrimental to the team, the club announced Saturday.
The suspension comes after Morant made controversial postgame comments following Friday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Morant went 3-for-14 from the field with eight points, seven assists, and one rebound over 31 minutes in the 117-112 defeat.
Following the loss, Morant repeatedly deflected questions, telling reporters to “go ask the coaching staff.”
When asked what the team could’ve done differently in the loss, Morant replied, “According to (the coaching staff), probably don’t play me, honestly. That’s basically what the message was after, so it’s cool.”
Ja Morant when asked questions from the media:
“Go ask the coaching staff.”
And then asked what could have been done differently, other than asking the coaching staff:
“According to them, probably don’t play me.”
