If you’re a regular user of Google products, there’s a good chance you’ve used or are currently using Google’s Password Manager. While it might not be as secure as dedicated password managers like 1Password or Bitwarden, Google’s option is easy and convenient to use, which allows it to become a top choice for most people.
We know that Google’s Password Manager will get a sleek update, adding a splash of Material 3 Expressive, and now it looks like you can download the app as a standalone product that’s now available directly from the Google Play Store. This news comes 9to5Google, sharing that users will now have a quick and convenient way to access Password Manager on Android.
This is going to be a must-have for some
While it appears to be a dedicated app, it’s more of a shortcut to the existing product that’s already built into Android. Rather than digging through menus, you can now just tap the Password Manager app, and you’ll be able to access everything you need in just a few seconds.
Alternatively, you can always head to the dedicated website if you need to make changes too. Prior to this app’s release, users could create a shortcut for the Password Manager, but it left an unsightly “double” icon on the home page that you can see in the image above. The other option was to head into a deep dive just to access the Password Manager.
It can still be accessed this way, by heading into the Settings menu, then clicking on your profile and selecting Manage your Google Account, then heading to Security, and finally scrolling to the Password Manager. We can all probably agree that this new shortcut is going to make things a lot easier going forward.
So if you want to give it a try, head to the Play Store, search for Password Manager and you should be set once you download the app. Of course, you can always just follow the long and complicated directions in order to access the same settings if you don’t want another app on your phone.
