Google says Pixel 10 will get GPU updates soon

Google has confirmed that future Pixel 10 updates will include GPU improvements, though the impact of that is unclear.

The GPU in Google’s new Tensor G5 chip for the Pixel 10 series is a relatively uncommon PowerVR GPU and, as Android Authority points out, it is currently running out-of-date firmware. The existing v24.3 firmware is not only a few months old, but lacks proper Android 16 support found in the v25.1 update released in August.

According to Google, updates are coming.

In a statement, Google says that forthcoming Pixel 10 software updates will include GPU firmware updates. Google explains:

We are continuing to improve driver quality in our monthly and quarterly system updates. For example, the most recent September and October patch releases included driver improvements. In future releases we are planning further GPU driver updates.

What’s the impact of this? It’s hard to say for certain. GPU updates could smooth over some issues found on Pixel phones in regards to gaming, but it’s also not magically going to turn Tensor G5 into a powerhouse. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens when these updates roll out.
