The Google Photos editing suite is often evolving, but for many users, the perspective correction tool has recently vanished.
Available for years at this point, the perspective correction tool in Google Photos has allowed users finer control over their photo. While the tool can be tricky to use, it’s a handy part of the editing suite as a whole as it can make adjustments that no other tools can easily make.
Or at least, it could.
Over the past few days, a growing number of Google Photos users have reported that the perspective correction tool has vanished. Photos simply no longer have this option available. We’re seeing reports across Reddit as well as on Google’s support forums. The issue seems to have first popped up a few days ago, but has affected more users in the past 24 hours or so.
Notably, we’re still seeing the option on Google Photos for Android v7.38, but there are a bunch of user reports of the tool having gone missing, so something is clearly up.
What is this tool used for? One user explains they would often use it for cropping photos of paintings, but in general photos, this is probably a niche tool in the first place. Still, it’s strange that Google would remove it altogether, so we suspect this may just be a bug.
