Users appear to be getting familiar renewal discount offers for Nest Aware, bringing the yearly $100 cost to just $50.
Following a recent price increase, Nest Aware has jumped to $100/year, or $10/month. The Nest Aware Plus option, which comes with more recording space, has increased as well, doubling the base tier’s cost. Both offer intelligent alerts for Familiar Faces, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm detection, and access to e911 calls.
According to some users, an attempt to cancel the subscription has triggered a special renewal offer. The discounted offer takes 50% off the total amount, and it appears to be working for both Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscribers. That’s a $50 annual renewal fee, instead of $100.
There looks to be one major caveat. It seems the offer is only appearing in the US, with users in Canada and Australia noting that no offer is appearing.
Users are reporting that even with a recently renewed subscription, attempting to cancel still activates a 50% off offer. In the Google Home app, users appear to be hitting Manage subscription on the Nest Aware page, then tapping Cancel.
In our own testing, the offer did not appear.
This comes as Google plans to rebrand the Nest Aware plan to “Google Home Premium.” The more expensive plan with fewer recording restrictions will apparently be renamed “Google Home Premium Advanced.” Following the recent price increase, it’s unlikely the rebrand will come with yet another price change. For now, Nest Aware’s discounted offer seems to be working to keep some on board.
Google offered a similar deal to YouTube TV subscribers after it was announced that the service would increase its subscription price to $82.99/month. The deal was offered as users attempted to cancel the service, allowing some to stay on board amidst the significant hike.
