Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are the latest first-party apps to get various Material 3 Expressive tweaks.
The updates in these three apps specifically apply to the editor interface. Google has yet to refresh the homepage. It starts with the new M3 Expressive progress indicator as you wait for a document to open. Specifically, it’s a circular component with the wavy shape that’s quite prominent.
Next up are various pill-shaped buttons themed with Dynamic Color for sharing and the checkmark when you’re finished editing. The Format sheet that slides up now makes use of pill-shaped dropdown menus instead of rounded rectangles.
The split button component is also leveraged for bulleted and numbered lists, though the separate menu button (at the right) only spins and does not change shape when activated.

In related developments, Google last week announced how Workspace customers and AI Pro/Ultra subscribers can now leverage Gemini’s 1 million token context window when viewing PDFs on the Google Drive website. That translates to 1,500 pages of text for “more helpful, comprehensive responses” and improved analysis.
