The Giants have released fan-favorite “Tommy Cutlets.”
The team let go of fourth-string quarterback Tommy DeVito ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline for roster cuts, according to multiple reports.
The Giants will go with quarterbacks Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston.
Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson was among the Giants to advocate for DeVito, the former Don Bosco Prep star, ahead of the deadline.
“I think there’s plenty of tape out there that shows he can play in this league,” Robinson told the New York Post. “He’s just grown since he got here. I remember when he first got here, it was like this dude doesn’t know anything going on with this offense, he’s really quiet.”
DeVito, a native of Livingston, signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He was initially placed on the practice squad after his first training camp, but has now played in 12 games in his career over the course of the last two seasons. He’s completed 65.3% of his passes (145 of 222) for 1,358 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, compiling a 3-5 record in the process.
It is rare for a team to keep four quarterbacks on the active roster. DeVito could still land on the practice squad if no one claims him off waivers.
“He’ll have options,” Giants reporter Jordan Raanan posted on social media.
“He’s probably the most experienced one in that quarterback room with knowing the offense,” Robinson said. “He’s just grown up a lot. I’m excited for Tommy with all the opportunities he gets, and I hope everything works out for him.”
