As October 2 draws near, the PlayStation pre-order charts are being dominated by Ghost of Yotei, thanks to positive reviews and a high Metacritic score. With just under a week till its release, Ghost of Yotei has the potential of being one of the dominant games in a stacked holiday season.
The road for Ghost of Yotei has been rough since it was revealed just over a year ago, with Ghost of Yotei initially drawing criticism from Ghost of Tsushima fans due to having a female protagonist. And recently, a Ghost of Yotei developer was fired from Sucker Punch Productions due to comments made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Some thought that these issues would reflect the game’s pre-orders ahead of its October 2 release.
Ghost of Yotei Topping the PlayStation Pre-Order Charts in Multiple Countries
Twitter user Okami13_ shared a screenshot on Friday showing that Ghost of Yotei is the top game pre-ordered in the United States, Japan, Europe, and the United Kingdom. All five charts show the deluxe edition of Ghost of Yotei in the number one spot, with the standard edition in the number two spot in all but Japan. At least 13 countries have Ghost of Yotei listed as the top pre-ordered game. The deluxe edition of Ghost of Yotei includes the snake armor set, a digital deluxe armor dye, charm, digital deluxe horse and saddle, a sword kit, and traveler’s maps. The deluxe edition does not grant early access to the game like other games may offer, but it’s still the most pre-ordered edition thanks to the in-game items.
Early reviews of Ghost of Yotei have been positive, with a Metacritic score of 87 as reviews continue to be published. Ghost of Yotei is the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, but not a direct follow-up to protagonist Jin Sakai. Set hundreds of years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei follows protagonist Atsu as she traverses Japan to hunt down members of the Yotei Six in a story of revenge across an open-world landscape.
Preloads for Ghost of Yotei started on September 25, giving players at least a week to prepare their PlayStation 5 systems for the 85 GB download. Players should note the potential of updates before release, so that file size could change. Preloading the game could be another reason for the spike in pre-orders as it gives players the opportunity to play the game right at release.
