Game of Thrones Prequel Arrives

It’s time to return to the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO has unveiled the first trailer for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” a prequel to “Game of Thrones.” The six-episode, half-hour drama will premiere on Jan 18.

The official logline for the series reads “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros, a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is based on author George R. R. Martin’s novellas titled “Tales of Dunk and Egg.” Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight in Westeros, and Dexter Sol Ansell is his diminutive squire Egg, who’s really Prince Aegon Targaryen (unrelated to either of the characters of the same name in HBO’s other prequel series “House of the Dragon.”)

The show also stars Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall and Danny Webb.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker (“House of the Dragon”). Ryan Condal (“House of the Dragon”), Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris and Sarah Bradshaw will also serve as executive producers on the series. Adina Smith (“Lessons In Chemistry,” “Hanna”) will direct three of the six episodes for the season, with Harris directing the season’s final three episodes.
