Galaxy Z Fold 8 rumored to solve one of the biggest issues of foldable phones

Samsung’s new foldable phones are a massive improvement over the previous generation. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has an insanely thin and light body, bigger screens, better cameras, and faster performance, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has an edge-to-edge cover screen and a bigger battery. Next year, Samsung is rumored to solve one of the biggest issues found on foldable phones.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 could compete with foldable iPhone with a crease-free display

Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed on X that Samsung’s next Galaxy Z Fold phone will feature a laser-drilled metal display plate. Apparently, this technology allows the phone to disperse the stress generated by bending the screen, allowing the screen to be crease-free. People have been complaining about the foldable display’s crease since the launch of first-generation Galaxy Fold. While the visibility of the crease has decreased over the years, it hasn’t disappeared altogether.

This new component will reportedly be supplied to Samsung by the South Korean firm Fine M-Tec. This company will also supply the component to Apple for the first foldable iPhone, which is expected to launch next year.

Since it is a high-price component compared to what is being used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the manufacturing cost will rise, but it remains to be seen if Samsung bears it or passes it on to the customer by increasing the phone’s pricing.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone will compete head-to-head with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and it will be interesting to see how they perform against each other and how Apple markets a foldable iPhone.

Usually, Apple’s new device comes with better third-party software support, and it will be crucial for Samsung to respond in a better manner than it has in the past. Google and Samsung need to work with third-party app developers to make better use of the foldable screen in their apps.
