Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 to outsell prior release, FE cut

According to reports out of Korea, Samsung is expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 to outsell their predecessors by a healthy margin, while the company is acknowledging that a fraction of users might actually be interested in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.

The Elec reports that Samsung is aiming to ship over 2 million units of both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, both about 10% higher than the prior generation. Fold 7 is said to have a production plan of 2.4 million units while Flip 7 is set for 2.3 million units. For the Fold alone, that’s a 9% increase over last year. But those numbers are somewhat in flux, as Samsung may adjust the numbers upwards due to the strong initial demand for both devices with “double-digit” growth, with the Fold in particular doing well. Last year, Samsung’s foldables struggled to find any momentum.

Meanwhile, Samsung only plans to produce 700,000 units of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, less than 30% of the quantity of Fold 7 and Flip 7 devices, respectively.

This suggests that the company knows that the device won’t be particularly appealing on the market, something that’s further suggested by the Flip 7 FE being little more than a footnote in the company’s launch event. The $899 device has so far mostly been described as overpriced and not worth its retail pricing. Previously, it was estimated that the Flip 7 FE would see a production run of 1.6 million units, a number which Samsung has cut by more than half (via @Jukanlosreve).

The report further goes on to mention that Samsung plans a run of just 100,000 “Galaxy Z TriFold” devices, an unsurprising number given that this is a new, likely more expensive form factor. There also rumors the “TriFold” may be region-restricted.
