‘Frankenstein’ Opens As No. 1 Movie On Netflix Top 10

After wanting to make the passion project for decades, Guillermo del Toro‘s adaptation of Frankenstein made its debut on Netflix this past weekend, and the numbers did not disappoint. The streamer released its Netflix Top 10 rankings Tuesday, with Frankenstein taking the No. 1 English-language film spot with 29.1 million views.

Netflix says the film was No. 1 in 72 countries and appeared in the Top 10 ranking in 93 countries.

“Seeing people embracing Frankenstein in the way I have for over 50 years now is really meaningful,” del Toro said in a statement to Deadline. “I’ve seen an outpouring of love, with many sharing with me about their repeat viewing, both in the 600 sold out screenings and now globally on Netflix. This is a film I’ve carried with me my entire life, and to see it resonate so deeply with audiences around the world is a really full circle moment.”

This film marked del Toro’s second he directed for the streamer after 2022’s animated pic Pinocchio, which won the Oscar for Animated Feature. That film was also a success on the streamer.

Besides the big numbers on Netflix, the film has been in the thick of the awards-season discussion following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival earlier in the fall.
