INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — FOX Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has been arrested after he was injured in an altercation in Indianapolis Saturday, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, IMPD officers were dispatched near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street on a report of an incident involving two men. The incident resulted in a man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men. Both men are receiving medical treatment.
After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested Sanchez for his alleged role in the incident. Sanchez has been preliminarily charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Marion County Adult Detention Center.
FOX Sports says Sanchez, 38, is stable at a hospital.
Sanchez is a color commentator for FOX Sports’ NFL coverage and is in town for Sunday’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.
News 8 has reached out to FOX Sports and IMPD for additional information.
Sanchez was a star quarterback for the University of Southern California from 2005-2008 before he was drafted fifth overall by the New York Jets in the 2009 NFL Draft. He led the Jets to back-to-back AFC championships in 2009 and 2010, including a win over the Colts in the 2010 postseason. Sanchez played in the NFL for 10 seasons, which included stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Washington Redskins.
