John Roberts, the co-anchor of Fox’s “America Reports,” is off of TV for now, and it might be a while before he returns as he battles a nasty disease.
The 70-year-old revealed his health situation on X earlier this week.
“Thank you to Trace for jumping into the chair today!” Roberts wrote. “I somehow came down with a severe case of Malaria. I can honestly say that I am on the only person in the hospital with Malaria. In fact, one of my doctors told me I’m the first case he has ever seen. Thanks to the folks at (Inova Health) for their expertise and compassion…!”
HuffPost reported that the CDC describes malaria as a “serious disease caused by a parasite that infects a certain type of mosquito.”
The disease is passed from the bite of an infected mosquito, and HuffPost reported that 2,000 cases are reported in the United States each year. It noted that “severe symptoms” can include kidney failure, mental confusion and seizures.
It is definitely not a disease that you hear of folks getting every day, and Roberts fans seemed a bit surprised while also sending well-wishes.
“MALARIA??” one person responded. “Story incoming … hopefully!”
“Get well soon, John Roberts,” another responded. “I hope doctors are keeping you pain free. You’re the first person I know of that’s had malaria.”
“Oh, John, I thought you were joking!!” another wrote. “I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Many prayers and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Hurry back!”
