Former Oregon guard Yasir Rosemond is returning to coach at his alma mater.
Rosemond, who was on the staff at Indiana the past four seasons and at LSU for the past three months, has joined Dana Altman’s staff at UO. He fills the void left by Louis Rowe’s departure earlier this offseason.
“We are really excited to have Yasir back in Eugene,” Altman said. “His experience in developing student-athletes will be a great addition to our program.”
Rosemond returns to Eugene with more than 20 years coaching experience, including at Oregon from 2005-10. Prior to his time at IU, he was an assistant at Alabama (2017-19), Georgia (2014-17), Samford (2012-14) and Seattle (2010-11).
He was director of basketball operations under Ernie Kent in 2005 and later an assistant from 2007-10, when he worked with Aaron Brooks, Malik Hairston, Maarty Leunen and Tajuan Porter, among others.
Rosemond played at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College in 1995-96, redshirted at Butler (Kansas) Community College, then transferred to Oregon for his final two seasons, when he made five starts in 58 appearances. He received the John Warren Award in 1999 as the team’s most inspirational player and went on to play four professional seasons in Brazil.
