Several players on the New England Patriots roster have stood out during training camp and preseason play, but the biggest riser on the team may be second-round rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson, who starred once again in the Patriots’ 20-12 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday afternoon.
In New England’s 48-18 victory over the Washington Commanders last week, Henderson announced himself to the world with a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown to open the game. In limited action on offense, Henderson had one carry for 18 yards and three catches for 12 yards, showing off his versatility out of the backfield.
Against the Vikings, Henderson didn’t play much once again, but he made an impact when he was on the field, as the former Ohio State Buckeyes star racked up 20 yards and a touchdown on his four carries.
Henderson’s touchdown run was particularly impressive, as he managed to navigate some traffic in the backfield after Minnesota broke through the line of scrimmage to find his way into the end zone. One guy who noticed Henderson’s continued strong play is former NFL head coach Jon Gruden, who shared his praise for the Pats’ new star on social media.
“Look at our guy TreVeyon Henderson! Cannot believe he fell to the 2nd round!” Gruden said in a post on X alongside a clip of his touchdown.

The Patriots’ decision to select Henderson with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft was a bit divisive, as some folks felt there were bigger needs that should have been addressed. Henderson’s strong play during the preseason has changed the minds of many fans, though.
While he will be splitting snaps with Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson, Henderson appears set to be in line for a big role on offense in 2025. And if he can continue making big plays for New England, he will force Mike Vrabel and the rest of the coaching staff to continue giving him more snaps.
