In addition to a bigger Charge 6 and tracker/smartwatch updates last week, Fitbit detailed some improvements to sleep tracking.
On Friday, Fitbit shared that it can now “provide a more precise measurement of your sleep stages.” This updated “tracking technology” is better able to capture “brief awakenings [that] the old system missed.”
This is a normal part of sleep.

This update might result in your awake time “slightly” increasing, which in turn impacts sleep stages and the total time. Users have noticed these changes in the past few weeks, and Fitbit’s Community post is meant to address any concerns: “The sleep data you see now is a more accurate reflection of your night’s rest. This more detailed data will help you better understand how your body is recovering each night.”
Fitbit says this sleep stages update is the “first step in a series of upcoming improvements to improving our sleep tracking — so stay tuned to hear about these changes as soon as they happen.” There is of course the upcoming Made by Google event, with Fitbit having a part in the Pixel Watch.
