Square Enix won’t be expanding Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with any DLC, but it did have plans to at some point during the development of the RPG.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi shared with Wccftech the developer had plans to make Final Fantasy VII Rebirth DLC, but after revisiting the topic, it ultimately decided to focus all its efforts on what fans really want: the third instalment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
“We figured that what fans want the most is to bring the third instalment as soon as possible. That would take priority over the Rebirth DLC, so we decided to take that approach.”
However, looking ahead, Hamaguchi appears open to the idea of the third game receiving an expansion, or potentially another “full title” after it. He explained: “With the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, there’s probably going to be a much wider audience for Final Fantasy as a whole. Whether we bring another new DLC or a full title, that’s something we are actively considering.”
It has been known for some time now Square Enix won’t be doing anything more with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, besides bringing it to more platforms. Last November, Hamaguchi said fans “really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.”
