The Food and Drug Administration on Monday named George Tidmarsh, a longtime biotech executive who has a background in oncology and pediatrics, as its top drug regulator.
Tidmarsh, who will be the director for the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, has helped lead the development of several approved drugs and has served as CEO of such companies as La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company and Horizon Pharma.
“Dr. Tidmarsh is an accomplished physician-scientist and leader whose experience spans the full arc of drug development — from bench to bedside,” FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said in a statement. “His appointment to lead CDER brings exceptional scientific, regulatory, and operational expertise to the agency.”
