Big Deodorant is in trouble again. Last Thursday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration initiated a nationwide recall of more than 67,000 cases of Power Stick deodorants. The items are produced by A.P. Deauville, a health- and beauty-product manufacturer based in Easton, Pennsylvania.
According to the FDA, the recall is due to deviations from cGMP, or “current good manufacturing practices” — a set of regulations the organization enforces. We have no idea what those manufacturing problems were, but they were clearly serious enough to voluntarily recall thousands of sweat-repelling sticks. If you want to see if the one you recently bought is in the mix, the specific ones being recalled are the Power Stick Original Nourishing Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant, Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant Spring Fresh, and Power Stick for Her Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant Powder Fresh.
All of this raises the question: Why is it so hard to keep our armpits both fresh and drama free? It seems we can’t go a single year without rumors that aluminum-infused antiperspirants are giving us cancer (debunked) or that“natural” deodorants are causing rashes or just straight up not working (sometimes true). Or we experience things like this — an affordable, widely available brand withdrawing products from the market for some mysterious issue. It shouldn’t be this hard.
