FDA issues voluntary recalls for several pet food brands

Foodynamics and Raw Bistro are recalling several of their pet food brands over possible salmonella contamination.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as humans handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to the products.

Foodynamics is recalling specific lots of Raw Dog Barkery, Bellepepper Cats, Kanu Pets and What’s in the Bowl brand freeze-dried pet treats:

• Raw Dog Barkery Whole Chicken Hearts with the lot number 030527
• What’s in the Bowl Whole Chicken Hearts with the lot number 030527
• BellePepper Cats products in 3 oz. packaged plastic bags labeled “Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Slices” with lot numbers 121426 and 011526
• Kanu Pets products in a 3 oz. packaged plastic bag labeled “Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Raw treats” with lot number 031627

Affected customers should have received a notice from the company.

Raw Bistro Pet Fare out of Minnesota is also recalling two product sizes of its frozen beef dog food.

The recall applies to the following products:

• Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen – 3 lb bags (UPC 858833002247) Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.
• Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Bulk, Frozen – 18 lb cases (UPC 858833002629) Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.

No adverse health effects have been reported by either company.

The FDA is urging consumers who have any of the contaminated pet food to throw it away in a secure container where other animals, including wildlife, can’t access it.

Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, contact your veterinarian.
