LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Fayette County Coroner says the cause of death is inconclusive for an infant boy found dead at a Lexington home last week.
According to an arrest citation for 21-year-old Laken Snelling, Lexington Police were dispatched to a home on Park Avenue for an unresponsive infant last Wednesday.
Police say they found a baby’s body inside a closet. They say the infant was wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag. Snelling is the baby’s mother.
Snelling faces charges of concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Coroner Gary Ginn says a preliminary autopsy was completed, but we still don’t know the cause of death.
The coroner’s report also confirmed that the infant was a boy.
In the coroner’s report, Coroner Gary Ginn said, “I understand the community’s concern and sensitivity surrounding the death of a child.” Ginn went on to say, “we are conducting a thorough and methodical death investigation to ensure all facts are carefully considered.”
Snelling pleaded not guilty to the three charges on Tuesday.
She was arrested Sunday, but court records show she was released on bond Monday night. Court records show that Snelling must remain on home incarceration and live with her parents.

At this time, we do not know who initially called the police.
Snelling is a UK student. A university spokesperson tells us she is a senior and enrolled. She is also a member of the school’s stunt team.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 26 at 8:30 a.m.
Lexington Police say the department’s special victims section is investigating, and that remains ongoing.
