Week 5 wraps up with the Jacksonville Jaguars hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, it’s time to take a look at the most noteworthy injuries from this week that will impact fantasy teams moving forward.
Overall, this was a fairly “down” week in terms of injuries after a plethora of them in weeks past. Let’s examine.
Fantasy Football Injury Updates
Quarterback
Kyler Murray (QB – ARI)
Kyler Murray briefly left Week 5’s contest against the Tennessee Titans with a foot injury, but did return. Still, this is something to monitor throughout this week of practice. If he’s unable to go, Jacoby Brissett will be the starter.
Carson Wentz (QB – MIN)
Carson Wentz briefly left Week 5 with a shoulder injury, but returned. The Vikings edged out a Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns in London. It’s unclear if the Vikings will go back to J.J. McCarthy as the starter or if Wentz will get another week of action.
Running Back
Omarion Hampton (RB – LAC)
Following the Chargers’ Week 5 loss to the Washington Commanders, Omarion Hampton was seen in a walking boot. He left the game early, but the severity of the injury isn’t yet known. If he were to miss time, it would be a tandem of Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal.
Rico Dowdle (RB – CAR)
Rico Dowdle had over 200 total yards, but late in the fourth quarter, he came up pointing at his knee and having trouble bearing weight. This will be something to watch, especially with Chuba Hubbard also injured. Next up would be Trevor Etienne.
Antonio Gibson (RB – NE)
Antonio Gibson left Week 5 on Sunday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills with a knee injury. He was seen limping off the field and crying. He plays third-fiddle to TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson and is largely a non-factor.
Wide Receiver
Darius Slayton (WR – NYG)
Darius Slayton caught three of his six targets for 31 yards in Week 5 before exiting the game against the New Orleans Saints with a hamstring injury. He also dropped a 50-yard touchdown. This offense will continue to be sporadic with rookie Jaxson Dart under center.
Tight End
Grant Calcaterra (TE – PHI)
Grant Calcaterra suffered an oblique injury in Week 5. He’s a non-factor in fantasy, though.
Kicker
Spencer Shrader (K – IND)
Spencer Shrader was ruled out of Week 5 with a knee injury. This injury appears to be pretty serious, so I’d expect a lengthy absence. Of course, kickers are a prime streaming position, but this injury probably harmed several lineups.
