The largest fighting game tournament of the year is set to begin tomorrow, and Evo 2025 is looking to bring more than just tense action to the big stage.
Organizers for the event recently released information regarding the Evo Showcase and Sunday finals details, which pretty much confirm what announcements we should expect this weekend.
We already previously put together our own Evo reveals prediction breakdown, but it seems we’re likely going to be seeing quite a lot of new stuff this year.
As has pretty much become tradition at this point, the Evo showcase will run throughout all of Friday, August 1 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT featuring various panels, gameshows and more hosted by the developers and community.
There may be some announcements to come out of this first day with Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact looking like a prime candidate, however, it looks like the bulk is being saved for finals day.
For the first time that we can recall, Evo is also letting us know which games are presumably going to have something to show on Sunday.
“Tune in on Sunday to hear from Invincible VS, Guilty Gear Strive, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Virtua Fighter, Tekken 8, Street Fighter and more,” the description reads.
Bandai Namco already confirmed that Armor King’s trailer will be dropping this weekend for Tekken 8 though we had some more that were pretty much givens too like Lucy’s trailer for Guilty Gear and Ken’s release date for Fatal Fury — and now we know there will be plenty more on top of that.
Capcom could provide a teaser for C. Viper in Street Fighter 6, but we have a feeling that an Outfit 4 DLC trailer could be more likely since they’re dropping last week and haven’t been shown outside of artwork yet.
It is interesting to note, however, that it says Street Fighter and not Street Fighter 6 specifically, so perhaps there will be some sort of other surprise waiting for fans.
This also makes Sunday the likely place for Sega to reveal more information and / or characters for the new Virtua Fighter project that was announced at the end of last year.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is going to have its first playable demo at the event, and it’d certainly be explosive to get some more new fighter announcements too.
The Sunday lineup of titles is made up of Guilty Gear Strive, Fatal Fury, Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6, and announcements will apparently come before the start of each of their top 8s.
Evo 2025 is set to go down from August 1–3 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
