Here’s an interesting story about an individual who managed to win NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5060 at a lottery event in China, but apparently, it cost him his job.
An Employee Wins RTX 5060, But the Company Decides to Ask For His Resignation If He Doesn’t Return the GPU
Stories in the PC industry pop up pretty often that are actually quite surprising, and the one we are reporting on right now is also another example of how ‘random’ the world can be sometimes. A post circulating on Chinese social media sites reveals that an employee was sent to an NVIDIA event as a business trip, but interestingly, he managed to win NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5060 in the event’s lottery session. Now, on ‘fair and square’ grounds, the GPU does belong to the employee; however, the firm that recruited him argues that it is ‘company property’ and has demanded that the GPU be returned.
The report from MyDrivers claims that the employee was ‘pressurized’ from senior management to return the RTX 5060 won at the event, and even the company’s HR department threatened the employee with potential termination if he didn’t adhere to the firm’s apparent policies. However, instead of returning the GPU, the employee has reportedly resigned, sparking a massive debate in local media about the company’s rigid stance, with some claiming that this was an ‘injustice’ to the employee.

The actual debate centers on whether an employee who wins the GPU in a company-led lottery owns it or if it becomes company property. While we won’t delve into legal considerations, the answer to this question is that if the winner chosen in the lottery is completely random, then the employee does deserve it. Anyway, our comment section will likely decide who’s on the right side here, but it won’t be wrong to say that the company went a little too far when they asked for the employee’s resignation if he didn’t return the RTX 5060.
