Ekitike Set for Liverpool Medical After Full Agreement on £79M Transfer

Liverpool’s big money signing of Eintracht Frankfurt’s rising star 23-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike appears to be all but officially done today, around 24 hours after news that a transfer fee had been agreed and a week after news of the advancing transfer broke.

Previous news of a fee agreement had come primarily it seemed from the German side. Today’s is from Liverpool’s club connected journalists, with confirmation of a £79M (€91M) top line fee with a base £69M (€80M) and the remainder made up of add-ons based on the players performances, appearances, and trophies won.

The club’s medical staff reportedly have stayed in Liverpool rather than travelling with the team to Hong Kong on Sunday to begin their 2025-26 pre-season Asian tour, with Ekitike’s medical booked for Tuesday after which he—and, presumably, the medical team—will fly out to join.

Liverpool are set to face AC Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday, and while that game might come too soon for full involvement from Ekitike, the expectation will for him to be training with his new teammates by that point and at least a cameo would seem likely.

His next chance to appear for his new club would be when the Reds take on Yokohama in the J-League World Challenge the following Wednesday. Following his signing, centre half remains a top transfer priority for Liverpool while another forward signing is only expected if Luis Diaz joins Bayern Munich.
