Ed Sheeran Clarifies He’s ‘Relocating’ for Tour Rather Than Moving to the U.S. After Viral Podcast Comments

Ed Sheeran is clarifying his recent comments about moving stateside.

After the “Sapphire” singer-songwriter, 34, went viral for speaking on the 2 Johnnies podcast about an upcoming move to the United States with his family, he took to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Sept. 9 to further explain himself.

On the podcast, released Sept. 7, Sheeran told the hosts, “I’m just about to move to America.”

“I feel like I might be the only person moving to America,” he added, after stars including Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell have relocated to the U.K. over the past year.

“I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there,” said Sheeran, who shares daughters Lyra Antarctica, 5, and Jupiter, 3, with wife Cherry Seaborn.

The Grammy winner’s comments received heavy media coverage, leading him to clarify the upcoming U.S. move in a post shared to his instagram Stories.

Sheeran wrote about wanting to “clear up stuff” and set the record straight, acknowledging he doesn’t want to be associated with a “narrative” that “people wanna move out of UK for some reason.”

“I’m not moving, I’m going on tour with my family and relocating to the continent I’m touring on, don’t wanna commute from London to San Diego obvz,” he explained.

“Also this isn’t a tax thing, it’s USA not UAE. [I’ll] always pay tax in uk coz that’s where I live,” continued the superstar.

The “Thinking Out Loud” artist’s upcoming Loop Tour is set to kick off with its European leg in December, followed by shows in Australia and New Zealand early next year. North American dates have not yet been announced.

This week, ice cream brand Van Leeuwen also announced a collaboration with Sheeran for a new Play Pink flavor in promotion of his new album.

The neon-colored flavor tastes like punch with swirls of dragonfruit and guava cake, and it’s the “pinkest ice cream” the chain has ever made, according to a press release. The color and taste is meant to be a “playful nod to the aesthetic and spirit of the album.”
