Today marked the fourth Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The partially padded (shoulder pads and shorts) session lasted for about an hour and 40 minutes. Here’s what I observed at the NovaCare Complex.
EAGLES PRACTICE NOTES
- JALEN HURTS UPDATE: Hurts looked pretty sharp through the two media-attended OTA practices, one minicamp practice, and first two days of training camp. He’s since cooled off. Hurts followed up Saturday’s struggles with some more mistakes on Monday. He was guilty of holding onto the ball for too long and taking some “sacks.” One of his passes got knocked down by Quinyon Mitchell and another by Jeremiah Trotter Jr. A downfield attempt to A.J. Brown was underthrown (second straight practice where that’s happened) and picked off by Quinyon Mitchell. Guessing Hurts might throw more than one interception in all of training camp like he did last year. And that’s hardly the end of the world. On the positive side, Hurts did have some nice completions to Dallas Goedert.
Nick Sirianni says Jalen Hurts is doing a great job of continuing to improve. Doing a good job of going through this reads, getting to his 3rd or 4th reads. Notes that he rarely throws incompletions in practice. #Eagles

- EAGLES INJURY REPORT: DeVonta Smith (back tightness), Andrew Mukuba (shoulder), Smael Mondon Jr. (illness), and Danny Gray (finger) did not practice. Jalen Carter (shoulder), Jihaad Campbell (shoulder), Cam Jurgens (back), and Kenyon Green (knee) were listed as limited. Carter was a participant in practice for the first time this summer, though he didn’t take part in team drills. Adoree’ Jackson seemed to suffer a finger injury later in practice. Patrick Johnson also appeared to be shaken up later in practice. Cooper DeJean came up a little gimpy after a 1-on-1 rep early in the day but he was able to finish practice.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — CORNERBACK: For the third practice in a row, Adoree’ Jackson was the first first-team right cornerback. It felt like he took the majority of reps there until later in practice, when Kelee Ringo was back with the starters. Ringo’s reemergence also coincided with Jackson seemingly suffering a finger injury. Though it’s early and things can change, the feeling here is that the veteran Jackson has been better than Ringo thus far. Jackson notably broke up a contested catch attempt by Terrace Marshall, who didn’t help himself by bobbling the ball (this is the play where Jackson got hurt). Ringo did have good coverage on Marshall to prevent a catch in 1-on-1. If Jackson has to miss time, that development obviously works in Ringo’s favor.
- While we’re on the subject of cornerbacks, we should note that Quinyon Mitchell (who has mostly played LCB but also saw some RCB reps today) has had an excellent training camp. Mitchell is the only Eagles defensive back who’s had a chance of slowing down A.J. Brown. Q did lose to A.J. twice in one-on-one reps but 1) that’s a drill that heavily favors receivers and 2) Mitchell made A.J. make tough catches. And, as previously noted, Mitchell knocked down a Hurts pass in team drills and picked off another. At this rate, I’d be surprised if there’s a sophomore slump here.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — SAFETY: Speaking of benefiting from an injury, Sydney Brown was the first-team safety with Mukuba unable to practice.
- Not the first time I’ve ever typed this but Dallas Goedert really has been an incredibly efficient target for Hurts. Simply put, good things happen when the ball goes his way. If Goedert can stay healthy, and that’s clearly a very big IF, I think he’s going to have a career year.
- I don’t think Jahan Dotson has been the Eagles’ third best wide receiver this offseason. But I do think he’s comfortably going to be WR3. The team views him as such, as indicated by how Dotson was hanging out on a side field with the likes of A.J., Goedert, and Saquon Barkley while the rest of team was working on tackling drills.
- Stock down on Johnny Wilson. The second-year wide receiver really struggled to separate while going up against Eli Ricks in 1-on-1s. And it’s not like he’s been able to use his size to his advantage. 5’10” rookie Mac McWilliams broke up a jump ball throw to the 6’6” Wilson in the end zone. Wilson did have a catch over the middle on a throw from Tanner McKee. But there’s been more bad than good.
- Stock up on Elijah Cooks, who made a highlight catch for the second practice in a row. Cooks Moss’d Adoree’ Jackson in 1-on-1. After the rep, Jackson smiled and clapped to show respect for the reception. If Wilson isn’t inspiring much confidence, maybe the Eagles will keep the 6’4”, 215 pound Cooks as their big receiver.
- Stock up on the aforementioned Mac McWilliams. The rookie cornerback filled in for Mukuba as the sixth defensive back in the Eagles’ first-team dime package. McWilliams broke up multiple passes on Monday.
- I wasn’t able to watch RB vs. LB 1-on-1s since I was focusing on WR vs. CB. So, we’re outsourcing to E.J. Smith here when it comes to Jihaad Campbell’s performance:
Campbell saw some first-team action again later in practice.
- Moro Ojomo continues to generate pressure on a daily basis. That might be concerning as it relates to him going up against Tyler Steen. But Ojomo has also been lined up against Landon Dickerson’s side at times.
- Tanner McKee threw a pass to a crossing Avery Williams that was a little too far out in front. Perhaps it was a bad throw but I tend to think Williams being very tiny is the bigger problem. Really shrinks the margin for error when throwing to him. Getting back to McKee, it wasn’t a sharp practice for him. Like Hurts, he was also guilty of holding the ball for too long and he threw a pass into the flyswatters (simulated leaping defensive lineman) in 7-on-7.
- Kyle McCord was intercepted by Tariq Castro-Fields. The ball went wide of his intended target and to the cornerback instead. Might’ve been a pick six in a game setting. During a red zone sequence, McCord ripped a ball over the middle to Kylen Granson that was ruled just short of the goal line.
- Dorian Thompson-Robinson had another solid practice relative to expectation. He hit Nick Muse over the middle for a completion. He would’ve had a touchdown pass to Kylen Granson had the tight end not badly dropped the ball.
- Gabe Hall mixed in with the first-team defensive line at times. The 2024 undrafted rookie free agent could be on the roster bubble. Ditto for Patrick Johnson at edge rusher.
- Montrell Johnson Jr. continues to prove that he’s got some juice. The undrafted running back broke out a spin move to dodge Ogbo Okoronkwo in the backfield.
UP NEXT: Back at it on Tuesday morning with a practice that starts at 10:00 AM Eastern. It’ll be the Eagles’ first fully padded practice of the summer before they have a walkthrough closed to media access on Wednesday. You can find more of the Eagles’ training camp schedule by clicking here.
