Today marked the second Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The non-padded session lasted for about 90 minutes. Here’s what I observed at the NovaCare Complex.
EAGLES PRACTICE NOTES
- JALEN HURTS UPDATE: Yet another day where the ball rarely hit the ground. BGN alumnus Eliot Shorr-Parks has Hurts down for just seven incompletions (86/93) in five media-attended practices this offseason. And though there have been a lot of shorter completions, it’s not like Hurts is entirely avoiding difficult throws. He actually made one of the most impressive practice passes I’ve ever seen from him on Thursday. During 7-on-7, Hurts fit the ball in an extremely tight window to Dallas Goedert with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. trailing close behind the tight end and Sydney Brown having coverage over the top. Hurts also had a nice play-action completion to DeVonta Smith along the left sideline for about 15-20 yards. One of Hurts’ rare incompletions came when Zack Baun ranged over for a pass breakup. Weird to see a defender manage to get a hand on one of his passes. But not shocking that Baun is capable of making that play.
- EAGLES INJURY UPDATES: Jalen Carter (shoulder) and Kenyon Green (knee) remain out. Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) and Cam Jurgens (back) were listed as limited again. Nakobe Dean is still on the active/PUP list.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — SAFETY: Cooper DeJean was the starting safety in the Eagles’ base defense again. Rookie Andrew Mukuba was first up at safety in nickel defense with DeJean shifting down to the slot. Mukuba and Sydney Brown continue to split first-team reps. Andre’ Sam also saw some limited first-team action, just like he did in the spring.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — CORNERBACK: Whereas Kelee Ringo took the starting reps on Wednesday, Adoree’ Jackson was first up as the Eagles’ first-team right cornerback on Thursday. Ringo replaced Jackson with the starters in the second 11-on-11 series while the latter played left cornerback with the second-team defense.
- Will Quinyon Mitchell shadow cornerbacks in 2025? Here’s what Vic Fangio had to say on that topic Thursday morning:
Q. What is the reason behind CB Quinyon Mitchell working on the other side in the spring and summer?
Vic Fangio: Well, if we ever get to the point where we want to match him on his particular receiver, he’s got to know how to play both sides if we want to play him at left or versus right, so we’ll figure that out on a weekly basis.
Q. Do you view the two as different? There’s a thought I guess that the left corner gets a little bit more action because the right-handed quarterback, is that true?
Vic Fangio: That’s kind of proven to not be true over the years.
Q. When it comes to cornerbacks traveling with the receiver, do you have any kind of philosophy on when you want to do that?
Vic Fangio: Yeah, when warranted and there’s two factors. One, is there a guy worth doing on the other team worth doing it and two can your guys do it because there’s a lot involved with doing it defensively and I’ve had years in a row where we never did it then I’ve had years where we did it every week and so again, it’ll be an evolution.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — LINEBACKER: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. continues to be the top linebacker next to Zack Baun with Jihaad Campbell and Smael Mondon Jr. working on the second-team defense. Trot Jr. allowed a couple catches to Goedert. He looked better in run defense, where he helped to “stuff” an attempted run up the middle.
- POSITON BATTLE UPDATE — RIGHT GUARD: Tyler Steen continues to take all the first-team right guard reps.
Landon Dickerson: “I think (Tyler) Steen is doing a tremendous job.”#Eagles

- Tanner McKee continues to look good. He had nice completions to Jahan Dotson and Elijah Cooks. I don’t think the Eagles should be rushing to trade him, nor do I think they will be.
- Dotson was more involved than the was one Day 1, which was good to see. I think he’ll be the WR3 this season but I don’t think he’s been the team’s third best wide receiver in offseason practices. I’d say that honor currently belongs to Terrace Marshall. Danny Gray also seems to make the most of his targets. Something to continue to monitor.
- Moro Ojomo pressured McKee into an incompletion. Good to see Ojomo flashing as he aims to replace Milton Williams.
- With Jurgens not taking 100% of the first-team center reps, Brett Toth rotated in as the starting center. Toth also lined up as the second-team left guard with rookie Drew Kendall taking over at the pivot. The second-string offensive line from left to right: LT Kendall Lamm, LG Brett Toth, C Drew Kendall, RG Matt Pryor, RT Darian Kinnard.
- Kyle McCord had a really bad miss on Thursday. The rookie quarterback threw a bullet way too high of a wide open E.J. Jenkins streaking down the left sideline.
- Jenkins dropped a short pass from McKee that may have been throw a little behind him. Still catchable. Will Shipley had a bad drop in the flat from a Hurts throw.
- Dorian Thompson-Robinson sure does run the ball a lot.
UP NEXT: The Eagles have a walkthrough closed to media on Friday. They’ll return to practice at 10:00 AM on Saturday morning. You can find more of the Eagles’ training camp schedule by clicking here.
