Eagles open as more than standard home favorites against Broncos in Week 5

The 4-0 Philadelphia Eagles are entering Week 5 as 4.5-point home favorites against the 2-2 Denver Broncos, according to FanDuel.

The Broncos will be on short rest in this matchup having played on Monday night. Here’s a full recap of their schedule to this point:

Week 1 — Home win over the Tennessee Titans, 20 to 12
Week 2 — Road loss to the Indianapolis Colts, 29 to 28
Week 3 — Road loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, 23 to 20
Week 4 — Home win over the Cincinnati Bengals, 28 to 3

They beat two bad teams but lost to two playoff contenders, albeit in close games.

Denver’s struggles on the road aren’t limited to this season; they’re 1-7 in their last eight games away from Mile High. The Eagles, meanwhile, haven’t lost at Lincoln Financial Field in 379 days.

The Broncos are bound to put forth a good fight in this one. Sean Payton is one of the better head coaches in the NFL. Second-year quarterback Bo Nix has been uneven but he has some weapons to work with. Denver is tied for allowing the second-fewest points this season and the 10th-fewest yards.

It’ll be very interesting to see how the Eagles’ Jekyll and Hyde offense fares in this one. Could be really good to get A.J. Brown going, though he faces a tough draw in Patrick Surtain II. Hard to trust the Birds’ offense to pull their weight for all four quarters. By contrast, Vic Fangio’s defense can be trusted to turn in a quality performance.

Do you see the Eagles advancing to 5-0 or are you worried about this one? What say you?
