The Philadelphia Eagles are acquiring running back Tank Bigsby from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for two draft picks in 2026, a league source confirmed to The Athletic on Monday.
The Jaguars will receive fifth- and sixth-round picks from Philadelphia in the trade. NFL Media was first to report the deal.

Eagles add RB depth behind Barkley
Philadelphia star running back Saquon Barkley remained healthy throughout his record-setting 2024 campaign, although he’s played 14 or fewer games in four of his seven seasons. Barkley totaled 482 touches last season. The Eagles said throughout the offseason that they were unconcerned about his workload, but it’s a position with a significant drop-off on the depth chart. The backup running backs are Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon, and Shipley injured his ribs in Week 1, so it’s a spot where the Eagles could continue to add quality depth.
The Eagles lost Kenneth Gainwell in free agency. Gainwell, who was the No. 2 running back last season, had 107 touches between the regular season and postseason.
Bigsby, 24, rushed for 766 yards and seven touchdowns last season in a split backfield with Travis Etienne. He also has two seasons remaining on his contract, giving the Eagles another cost-controlled option beyond this season, with Barkley among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. — Zach Berman, Eagles writer
The importance of the NFL’s new kickoff rule
Despite Shipley having injured his ribs against the Cowboys last week, it’s my understanding that the Bigsby trade is unrelated to that. The Eagles like their depth at running back and are enamored with Bigsby’s ability as a kickoff returner. That the Eagles are trading for someone they have interest in as a kickoff returner underlines that position’s value in the wake of the NFL’s kickoff rule change.
The Eagles themselves kicked off to KaVontae Turpin every time against the Cowboys and prevented him from reaching the 35. Bigsby, a 2023 third-round pick, has 11 career kickoff returns for 314 yards. Howie Roseman might not be done dealing
Howie Roseman is always among the NFL’s active general managers, but he’s taken his propensity for trades to a different level this summer. This is Roseman’s sixth trade since the start of training camp. He’s added cornerback Jakorian Bennett, wide receiver John Metchie III, quarterback Sam Howell, offensive tackle Fred Johnson, and now Bigsby in trades during that span. He also signed three-time Pro Bowler edge rusher Za’Darius Smith on Friday.
The decision-makers for the defending Super Bowl champions believe they have a roster to contend again, and Roseman is aggressive in trying to secure the necessary depth to play deep into the season. The Eagles now have 10 draft picks in 2026, including seven in the top four rounds. That means Roseman might not be finished. — Berman
