Dynamite preview: HOOK gets another chance to become AEW world champion

Dynamite airs tonight (Oct. 29) with a live show from Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas. This is the second episode of Dynamite during the five week build to Full Gear, which takes place on November 22.

HOOK finally gets another chance to become AEW world champion

Halloween is coming up later this week, so tonight’s show is being called “Fright Night Dynamite.” The main event is Bobby Lashley vs. Samoa Joe vs. HOOK vs. Ricochet in a 4-way match with the winner moving on to challenge AEW World Champion Hangman Page at Full Gear.

When this match was announced, plenty of wrestling fans were spooked out by the idea of HOOK actually contending for an AEW world title shot. His presence here certainly does stand out and forces one to think about why he deserves this spot in kayfabe over the likes of Okada, Darby Allin, Kyle Fletcher, and Konosuke Takeshita, among others. Who knew that HOOK’s recent victories over low carders and/or jobbers like Griff Garrison, Cole Karter, and Aaron Solo could have this kind of pay off?

Tony Khan probably booked HOOK in this match due to his history with former stablemate Joe, who defeated HOOK in a world title match in 2024. They will rekindle their issues tonight in this match, even if in kayfabe it doesn’t make much sense for HOOK to be here.

The timing of this match feels like it’s a week late considering there’s already been an angle to set up Joe for another world title match against Page, and the two guys are cutting promos on each other about it. With that in mind, Joe is the clear favorite to win, even though Lashley has never been pinned in AEW. The only matches Bob has lost are ones where he doesn’t have to take the fall, just like this one. Ricochet and Lashley will likely cancel each other out as the feud between The Hurt Syndicate and The Demand rages on.

Tune into Fright Night Dynamite to see if AEW gives its fans a bone-chilling scare with HOOK possibly walking out as the world title challenger on the next PPV.

Fright Night Dynamite features a Trick or Treat Tornado Tag tag match pitting Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin against Wheeler Yuta & Daniel Garcia. This sounds like one of those holiday theme fights, so don’t be surprised if there are various Halloween related plunder and decorations around the ring for the wrestlers to smash each other over the head with. Let’s just hope they keep the Halloween-themed Molotov cocktails away from Darby.

That’s not the only match tonight between the Death Riders and The Conglomeration. Jon Moxley took the coward’s way out last week by attacking the referee when he was on the verge of tapping out to Kyle O’Reilly, so they are having a rematch tonight. Will the rest of the factions get involved for a post-match angle that sets something up for Blood & Guts?

The AEW women’s world tag team championship tournament officially kicks off tonight with Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata vs. Skye Blue & Julia Hart in a first round match. The babyfaces actually chose Blue and Hart to be their first round opponents. Will that decision come back to bite Hayter and Aminata in the ass if the Toxic Spider Thekla is ringside to give the Sisters of Sin a numbers advantage?

Fright Night also includes a 4-way fight to determine the number one contenders for the AEW world tag team championship between Jurassic Express, Young Bucks, FTR, and JetSpeed. This could very well be the best match of the night after these four teams put on a hell of a show in the main event of Collision over the weekend. There is also a good amount of uncertainty about the outcome, with JetSpeed being the only clear underdog in the match. Will Jack Perry and Luchasaurus be pushed to a title match so soon after reuniting, or will one of the heel teams use some shenanigans to steal it from them?

Finally, Fright Night Dynamite features a Don Callis Family Summit. Will the mega powers explode all over again when AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada and IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita stand in the same ring together? Will Mark Briscoe disrupt the summit before that happens to get his hands on TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher? If so, is Kenny Omega around to help out? Will Andrade wear a Halloween costume so he can attend the family summit without WWE knowing he’s there?

Other stuff to keep an eye on

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone obnoxiously celebrated her 12 championships last week on Dynamite, but the party was ruined when AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander stuffed her face into the cake.
