A 37-year-old woman who police say drove through barricades and hit three people with her van on Monday at Harrisburg’s Kipona Festival is being held at Dauphin County Prison, awaiting charges.
Elizabeth Bohrer was not immediately charged after the Monday evening crash because investigators were waiting to learn the severity of the pedestrians’ injuries to determine the extent of charges, according to District Attorney Fran Chardo. Her Facebook page says she lives in New Cumberland.
Police told PennLive the crash critically injured a 6-year-old boy and seriously injured a woman in a wheelchair. A third victim, a man, was listed in stable condition.
A large section of North Front Street was closed for the festival with barricades preventing vehicles from entering.
Witnesses told PennLive Bohrer’s red minivan was initially stopped at State and Front streets outside of the festival about 6 p.m. as it was starting to close.
But then police said she drove through the barricade and through the grassy riverfront at Front and Forster streets. Witnesses said she drove on the sidewalk honking, and then onto Front Street toward the crowd near the children’s activities.
Bohrer was arrested at the scene while wearing a shirt that said “Mom Son Team.” She had two children’s car seats in the back of the minivan.
Kipona was held along Front Street from Market to Forster, Saturday through Monday. It was scheduled to close at 6 p.m. Monday.
