Drew McIntyre got screwed out of the WWE title again

WWE wasted no time getting to the good stuff on tonight’s (Sat., Nov. 1, 2025) Saturday Night’s Main Event television special at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes making his entrance right at the top of the show for his title match opposite Drew McIntyre. They added a special stipulation on Friday Night SmackDown this week that said the champ could lose his title if he was counted out or disqualified, giving at least some reason to think they could really be considering making a change.

They teased it throughout the match, of course. Rhodes, who has been a bit unhinged of late, was being baited heavily by his opponent, leading to a moment or two where he almost lost it, like pushing the referee away before quickly apologizing.

They also had a fantastic near finish when McIntyre knocked Rhodes off the ropes and through the announcer’s table and the the referee made it all the way to nine before the champ managed to climb back in the ring. The next big spot involving the referee saw an incidental bump in the corner, leading to McIntyre grabbing the championship and bringing it into play. Of course, it was Cody who ended up using it to his advantage — though Michael Cole claimed he may not have known he was doing so, much to Wade Barrett’s disgust — with a DDT on top of it setting up a Cross Rhodes the referee recovered just in time to count the pinfall for.
