Dolly Parton, who was set to receive the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Oscar organization’s annual Governors Awards in November, will not attend the ceremony in person.
Sources confirmed Tuesday that Parton will miss out on the event, which is set for November 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.
The news comes as Parton earlier this week said she had to cancel several December concert dates in Las Vegas, saying in a statement Monday that she has “been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I need to have a few procedures.”
Parton had been set to play six shows at Caesars Palace from December 4-16. That run has now been moved to September 2026.
We hear that Parton not attending AMPAS’ honorary Oscars ceremony had been known about for some time within Academy circles, so the reason for missing the Gov Awards remains unclear; Deadline has reached out to her reps for comment.
AMPAS revealed in June that its Board of Governors voted to present this year’s Academy Honorary Awards to Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise and Wynn Thomas, and the Hersholt to Parton. Each will be presented Oscar statuettes.

The Hersholt award is given “to an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry by promoting human welfare and contributing to rectifying inequities.”
