DJI Osmo 360 brings two 1/1.1″ square-shaped sensors with f/1.9 lenses for up to 8K 50fps panoramic video or 5K 4:3 30fps and 4K 4:3 120fps single lens video. Supporting the same magnetic mount and batteries as the Osmo Action 5 Pro, the new Osmo 360 is available now, starting at €479.99.
Today, with the newly announced camera, the Chinese tech giant enters a new market segment. The Osmo 360 is DJI’s first-ever 360 camera. Does it have what it takes to compete with the current leader, Insta360, and its latest X5? Let’s take a look at the Osmo 360 specs and features.
DJI Osmo 360 – larger square-shaped image sensors
The two sensors used in the Osmo 360 are newly developed square 1:1 aspect ratio 1/1.1”-type CMOS image sensors. As DJI puts it, physically, each sensor features an imaging area equivalent to that of a 1-inch-type CMOS sensor with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Because the sensors are square-shaped, there are fewer wasted pixels than when using a traditional 4:3 sensor. The only “wasted” pixels are now at the corners of the sensor as the 180° lenses project the whole image circle onto the image sensor. DJI talks about 25% more sensor utilization, which results in lower power consumption.

The sensors have 2.4μm pixels, and the maximum panoramic 2:1 photo resolution is 15520 × 7760 (120 MP). The dual lenses feature an f/1.9 aperture, and each covers slightly beyond 180° FOV.
Video up to 8K 50fps panoramic or 4K 120fps single-lens
For the panoramic video (with both sensors and lenses recording the full 360° video), the Osmo 360 offers the following resolutions and framerates:
- 8K: 7680 × 3840 @ 24/25/30/48/50fps
- 6K: 6000 × 3000 @ 24/25/30/48/50/60fps
- 4K: 3840 ×1920 @ 100fps
On top of 360° mode, when both lenses are capturing images, the camera also offers a single-lens mode. The benefit of this one is that the image processing is faster, and therefore the Osmo 360 can shoot up to 5K 60fps or 4K 120fps video with a 155° (or 170° in ultra wide-angle video mode) field-of-view. Users can also switch between the front and rear lenses during a take without stopping recording. This can be useful for vlogging. In the single-lens video mode, the camera is capable of:
- 5K (4:3): 5120 × 3840 @ 25/30fps
- 5K (16:9): 5120 × 2880 @ 25/30/50/60fps
- 4K (4:3): 3840 × 2880 @ 25/30/50/60fps
- 4K (16:9): 3840 × 2160 @ 25/30/50/60fps
- 2.7K (4:3): 2688 × 2016 @ 25/30/50/60fps
- 2.7K (16:9): 2688 × 1512 @ 25/30/50/60fps
- 4K (4:3): 3840 × 2880 @ 25/30/50/60/100/120fps (ultra wide-angle video)
- 4K (16:9): 3840 × 2160 @ 25/30/50/60/100/120fps (ultra wide-angle video)
- 2.7K (4:3): 2688 × 2016 @ 25/30/50/60/100/120fps (ultra wide-angle video)
- 2.7K (16:9): 2688 × 1512 @ 25/30/50/60/100/120fps (ultra wide-angle video)
Aside from the standard panoramic and single-lens modes, there is a SuperNight mode, Selfie mode, Hyperlapse, and timelapse. HorizonSteady and RockSteady stabilization modes are available, too. On top of support for up to 1TB microSDXC memory cards, the Osmo 360 boasts a generous 105GB of built-in storage.
DJI claims the camera captures up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range. The video files have a maximum bitrate of 170Mbps and are being saved in MP4 (HEVC compression) or OSV, which is the panoramic mode video format for further post-production with DJI software – either DJI Mimo (mobile app) or DJI Studio.

DJI Studio is a desktop app that offers a full suite of tools, and there is a Premiere plugin, too, which streamlines the workflow. DJI Mimo’s GyroFrame allows users to adjust the 360° composition using motion control, while intelligent tracking makes it possible to lock onto and track people, vehicles, pets, and more.
DJI Osmo 360 – body, battery, mounting
The DJI Osmo 360 body weighs 183g/6.45oz and, according to DJI, it can be used at depths of up to 10 meters/32.8 feet underwater. Although not built for long-term underwater usage, the Osmo 360 has an IP68 waterproof rating. The camera is capable of recording over 1.5 hours in temperatures as low as -20° C (-4° F).

The good news is that the Osmo 360 shares the same 1950mAh battery pack with the existing DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. This means you can use your batteries and the battery charger if you happen to have that action camera already. The battery provides up to 100 minutes of runtime in 8K 30fps. This can further be extended for another 180 minutes with the Osmo 360 Battery Extension Rod. Last but not least, the camera also supports quick charging, so that you can get a 50% charge in 12 minutes.
Speaking about compatibility with existing cameras, the Osmo 360 utilizes the same magnetic quick-release design known from previous Osmo Action cameras. You can, therefore, use your existing accessories. Thankfully, on top of the magnetic mount, the Osmo 360 sports a standard 1/4-20” mount thread at the bottom as well.

The Osmo 360 can be controlled in three ways:
- via the 2.0” 800-nit touchscreen along with the three physical buttons on the body
- via the smartphone app
- via gesture and voice control – start or stop recording with a simple palm gesture, etc.
Osmo 360 offers the OsmoAudio Direct Microphone Connection, allowing users to connect Osmo 360 directly to two DJI microphone transmitters without a receiver. This only works for the DJI Mic 2 and the DJI Mic Mini.
