For everyone outside Asia excited to order a DJI Neo 2 tomorrow…. I am sorry, but you won’t be able to. There are a number of reasons why this might be happening, but one of the more prominent explanations is that DJI is changing tactics and is going full “China first” with their marketing. But rest assured, there will be ways to still order your favorite drone brand. Let me explain what is happening at DJI.

3 Reasons Why DJI Neo 2 Will Not Launch Globally
Here are 3 reasons why we don’t expect the Neo 2 to be launched globally:
Reason 1. Chinese teaser only – Those who are paying attention might have noticed the DJI Neo 2 teaser wasn’t emailed to everyone around the world and they only pushed the teaser on Facebook and Instagram stories. And above all the teaser ended with Chinese writing.
Reason 2. Chinese DJI website only – If you search for the Neo 2 launch announcement on the DJI website, you’ll probably won’t find anything. Only if you switch your language settings on the website to China. You will be able to find the DJI Neo 2 teaser on the homepage and on its own teaser page :

Reason 3. Chinese tester units leaked only – In the past years I made various friends being in the business of DJI drones. And believe me when I say they all were a bit surprised they knew nothing of the DJI Neo 2 being launched this early. Usually they get drones weeks in advance, registered test unit to be able to extensively test the drone and provide DJI with reliable feedback during the beta test software (which is usually horrible).
So, Why Is This DJI Neo ‘Delay’ Happening?
We have seen this game play out for a number of products now. The recent China first release of the DJI Osmo Mobile 8, the release of the DJI Romo vacuum and now with the DJI Neo 2. Is DJI just copying the ‘America first’ tactic? Has the DJI ban got anything to do with it? Or is it reaction to the unreliable American market created by the the political pressure over the last years? Are they fighting early leaks? Short anwser: no, I don’t think it’s that easy. Let me explain the bigger picture here:

DJI Has Issues To Tackle
When we look at DJI as a company, they evolved from a tech startup to the biggest drone company in the world. Every product get’s designed, certified, produced and shipped in the millions of units. That’s a pretty complicated business to run and a lot of things that can go wrong. Releasing that product at the same time, all around the world, is just the final hurdle where things can go wrong and become costly when products need to be recalled. (Remember the DJI RC Track cancellation on the DJI Mavic 4?)
Understanding this, I could speculate all day why the DJI Neo 2 isn’t produced that much at first and isn’t released outside Asia. I guess DJI takes it easy while the current global market is ‘unstable’ and ‘unreliable’ for them considering the impeding United States ban on DJI products. But Europe isn’t that big of a threat so a launch will follow soon in November, as planned and leaked earlier. In the States however, you might have to go to eBay again and trust your money to a direct seller from Hong Kong. Hurry up though, because with the ban around the corner customs might hold your package indefinitely.
DJI Neo 2 European Release Date, Prices And Combo’s
Regarding the launch outside Asia, all recent webshop system updates and leaks promise European prices to increase by only 40 bucks. Leaker Dealabs revealed all prices yesterday and promises a European release on November 13th.
There will be three optional packages. Where I believe the DJI Goggles N3 is again part of the Motion package:
- DJI Neo 2: €239 / £209 / $259
- DJI Neo 2 Fly More Combo: €399 / £349 / $429
- DJI Neo 2 Motion Fly More Combo: €579 / £509 / $599

The Leaks And DJI Rumors Will Never Stop
Regarding the leaks and DJI rumors, I doubt DJI will ever be able to fix all reseller websites, control all of their employees and partners. Being the biggest drone brand of the world it’s easy to understand people get excited for the new best thing, and can’t wait to share it with their friends. So how about that Avata 3 that we saw this summer? I’ll keep an eye out. Cheers, Jasper
