A person died yesterday in an apparent suicide at a Walt Disney World hotel. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the death to Deadline.
Rumors and blog posts online suggested the guest had jumped in front of or been hit by the monorail, which runs through Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
An OCSD representative later told EW that the person “was NOT struck by the monorail, so that is erroneous information.”
Video purported to be from the scene shows a white pop-up tent being erected on a terrace in front of the Disney’s Contemporary Resort’s huge glass window. The site is a short distance from the monorail track, which may account for the confusion. Police vehicles are seen on the street below. A later image shared by the person who posted the video seems to show a tarp-covered gurney being wheeled along a concourse.
“This is an apparent suicide,” the OCSD representative said.
Deadline has reached out to Walt Disney World for comment and this post will be updated when one is received.
