Diddy At Risk Of Being Sexually Assaulted In Prison, Lawyer Warns After The Rapper’s Sentencing

Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ lawyer, Mark Geragos, has called attention to the risks the rapper faces as he begins to serve his sentence.

Geragos said the embattled music mogul faces a potential sexual assault from other inmates, days after it was revealed someone tried to shank him in jail.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ jail term has sparked mixed reactions online, with several legal experts sharing their opinions, including one who predicted the rapper would be released in 18 months.

Attorney Mark Geragos has opened up about the dangers the Bad Boy Records founder faces while incarcerated.

Following his conviction on two counts of prostitution related charges in July, U.S. Federal judge Arun Subramanian sentenced the “Bad Boy For Life” rapper to 50 months behind bars on Friday.

Appearing on the “2 Angry Men” podcast over the weekend, Geragos suggested that Diddy is at risk of suffering sexual and other forms of assault in jail, and could be made worse because of his celebrity status, per TMZ.

After being asked if he is “concerned” about Diddy getting “sexually” and “violently assaulted” in prison, Geragos answered in the affirmative, noting that they already tried to “shank” him once.

“They are going to have to keep him somewhere that they can keep an eye on him,” the lawyer noted. “It would have obviously been better if he had gotten less time and had been at a camp.”

Since his arrest in September last year, Diddy has been staying at the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, but it’s unlikely he’ll be seeing out his sentencing in the same facility, as Judge Subramanian is expected to make a recommendation on that today.

Although the final decision rests with the Bureau of Prisons, Geragos says Diddy is still a “target” for sexual assault, even though he will eventually be assigned to a minimum-security prison.

“It’s a prison. You always have to watch your back. And if that’s the case, you’re never really out of the woods until you’re released or you go to a halfway house,” the lawyer explained, stressing it would be safer for Diddy to be in a “camp.”

During the court session last Friday, Diddy’s lawyer raised alarm over the safety of his life, saying he’d become a “trophy” for other inmates who are bent on hurting him.

“The guards stopped a person who was armed with a shank who was on top of Sean and about to cut him,” attorney Brian Steel said, according to the New York Post.

“Sean is not a typical person in custody; everyone knows him,” he continued. “There are certain people who, it would be a trophy for them that they would get recognition if they harmed him.”

At the time, Steel claimed that “I Need A Girl” rapper hasn’t slept for 2 hours consecutively, adding that he perpetually “lives in fear.”

“He cannot go back there,” the legal expert warned.

Prosecutors sought an 11-year sentence for Diddy, but his lawyers argued that he should receive only 14 months, which would have helped secure his release almost immediately, as he had already served 13 months.

According to News Nation, legal expert Jeffrey Lichtman, who represented Diddy’s son Justin, said the sentence is a serious one considering Diddy has already spent 13 months “in one of the worst prisons in America.”

“Today’s dog and pony show — while interesting and funny at times — didn’t move the judge at all, as he surely had in his mind before he came onto the bench today that he was giving Combs 50 months. Not a horrible sentence at all, but time served was never a realistic prospect,” Lichtman said.

“At the end of the day, as bad as Combs’ behavior was, it never was clear what federal laws he violated, if any. And 50 months in jail, a lot of it in one of the worst prisons in America, is a really serious punishment,” the attorney noted.

Lichtman predicted that the “I Need A Girl” rapper would likely not see out the full duration of his sentencing.

The legal expert shared that Diddy might even be released in less than two years from now.

“My guess is he will be out in about 18 months. Two years tops,” Lichtman said.

He estimated that “85% is 42.5 months. Five months for a halfway house.”

Mixed reactions continue to trail Subramanian’s judgment as many netizens say the duration wasn’t enough. Some legal experts have also shared their thoughts on Diddy’s sentencing, with O.J. Simpson’s lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, criticizing him for the “stupid and arrogant” mistake he made before his sentencing.

Rumors had it that the rapper was pursuing several business ventures and a speaking engagement in another state while behind bars, which Dershowitz said was a “slap in the face” to the judge.

“I can’t imagine anything more stupid than that,” the Harvard professor told Fox News. “How anybody permitted him to do that … It’s just a slap in the face to the judge. It’s outrageous. I can’t imagine any lawyer or any responsible person allowing … I would have quit the case.”

He continued, “If I had been Diddy’s lawyer and Diddy had said, ‘I’m gonna make an arrangement, and I’m going to make it public.’ I would’ve said, ‘Yeah, and you’re going to get a new lawyer. I’m not representing somebody who is so stupid and arrogant.'”

“I mean, I’m not Dr. Kevorkian. I don’t believe in walking my clients into a death chamber. And that was a kiss of death,” Dershowitz added.
