Dana White isn’t interested in hearing about the quality of a UFC card until after it’s already happened.
Ahead of UFC Vegas 110 on Saturday, White sat down for a Q&A posted on social media and one of the first questions asked to the UFC CEO was about why the next two events are so bad. Saturday’s card is headlined by ranked featherweights Steve Garcia and David Onama while UFC Vegas 111 next week features Gabriel Bonfim vs. Randy Brown in the main event.
While not the biggest names on the company roster, White prefers to let the fights play out before making any kind of judgment on how good or bad any card might be.
“Well let me ask you a question — how’s it bad when it hasn’t even happened yet?” White said. “Shut the f*ck up. Watch it tomorrow and if it’s bad, tell me it’s bad.”
Obviously, the complaints are aimed at the overall quality of the card, not necessarily about the action in the fights. While not the most stacked events in UFC history, UFC Vegas 110 does feature four top 15 ranked fighters at the top with Garcia vs. Onama and heavyweight Waldo Cortes-Acosta facing Ante Delija.
There’s also a matchup of top 5 bantamweights on the undercard with Ketlen Vieira taking on Norma Dumont.
As for UFC Vegas 111 on Nov. 8, that event is definitely a little tougher when it comes to stakes with only Bonfim currently ranked in the top 15 out of anybody competing on the main card.
The prelims feature a pair of ranked fights in the women’s divisions with Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Jacqueline Cavalcanti and Tecia Pennington vs. Denis Gomes.
Regardless, White prefers letting the action speak for itself and he’s definitely not shy when it comes to voicing his opinion about a lackluster output if a card doesn’t deliver.
The next two cards may not be star-studded but that eventually leads to UFC 322, which is stacked with two title fights at the top of the card including Islam Makhachev’s move to welterweight where he faces champion Jack Della Maddalena in the main event while Zhang Weili moves up from strawweight to face Valentina Shevchenko with the 125-pound title going up for grabs.
