Dan Quinn: “I’ll take over the role as the defensive coordinator”

The Washington Commanders are on a five-game losing streak and they’re looking for answers that they don’t have. Dan Quinn said the team wasn’t playing up to their standards after they lost 44-22 to the Detroit Lions, their fourth loss in a row by 21+ points.

Dan Quinn opened his pressers by saying that change was needed and he’ll be taking over as the defensive coordinator. He’s not firing Joe Whitt, and he said his right hand man understood the decision. Whitt was moved down to the sidelines for the Lions game, but will move back there with Quinn calling plays on the sidelines.

Another player is going to miss significant time with a new injury. Rookie CB Trey Amos suffered a fractured fibula yesterday, and is likely done for the year. He was ruled out against the Lions yesterday with an ankle injury, and will start the recovery process for next season. Washington just lost their other starting CB Marshon Lattimore two weeks ago with a torn ACL.

The team is traveling to Madrid tonight and they will be without QB Jayden Daniels who is recovering from an elbow dislocation. Terry McLaurin will travel to Spain, and Quinn said it’s part of his recovery process.

Daron Payne was suspended for one game without pay for striking Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown after some words were spoken to him after a Detroit touchdown. Quinn said he talked to the veteran, and team captain for that game, about the incident, reminding him of how important it is to keep your cool in situations like that. Payne has a appeal hearing set up in the next few hours to determine if his suspension is reduced to a fine so he can travel with the team and play against the Dolphins on Sunday.
