The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to an extension with a key piece of the 2025-26 roster. No, not that one.
It’s tight end Jake Ferguson that Dallas is locking in to a new deal, the team announced on Sunday morning. Ferguson and the Cowboys have agreed to a four-year extension worth as much as $52 million with $30 million guaranteed. Ferguson also gets a signing bonus worth $12 million.
Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones said earlier this week that the Cowboys had identified four-to-five players they wanted to talk to about potential extensions. Ferguson proved to be one of them.
Ferguson is preparing to begin his fourth season with the Cowboys. The 26-year-old tight end was a fourth-round draft pick of the team in 2022.
Ferguson is coming off a bit of a down season last year after being selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2023-24. Last season, Ferguson caught 59 passes for 494 yards compared to 71 catches and 761 yards two seasons ago. The former Wisconsin Badger missed three games in 2024 while recovering from a concussion.

It was Ferguson’s first season without a touchdown — something he noted during the off-season.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer believed last season was an anomaly for Ferguson.
“I think last year was a fluke,” Schottenheimer said. “He definitely dealt with some stuff that was hard for him. Jake’s always motivated. Jake is one of those tone setters who just plays the right way. But the look in his eyes and the way his body looks, in terms of physique, and the way he’s moving has been noticeably different in a good way.”
Ferguson returns for 2024 as the projected starter under a new deal, however, ahead of Luke Schoonmaker and Brevyn Spann-Ford on the Cowboys’ tight end depth chart.
It’s not Micah Parsons locking in a new megadeal, but Dallas has secured an impact piece of the offense.
