Dakota Johnson and Mom Melanie Griffith Make Rare Appearance at ‘Splitsville’ Premiere

  • Dakota Johnson and her mother Melanie Griffith made a joint appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of Splitsville on August 19.
  • Johnson wore a silver leather dress, while her mom rocked an all-white suit.
  • Griffith previously supported her daughter at a screening back in May.

Dakota Johnson just made a very rare joint appearance with her mom, Working Girl actress Melanie Griffith—and the mother-daughter duo couldn’t have made a cuter pair. Attending the Los Angeles premiere of Johnson’s film Splitsville, the mom and daughter wore complementary looks as they posed arm-in-arm and even shared a hug.

Johnson, whom Griffith shares with ex-husband Don Johnson, rocked a leading lady look in a chromatic silver leather strapless gown, which she paired with statement silver jewelry and her signature flawless bangs and long layered locks.

Very cute.

Meanwhile, Griffith went for a menswear-inspired look in a white tailored suit, complete with floaty pants. She paired the chic ensemble with a side-parted updo, a simple chain necklace, and a pair of delicate fingerless lace gloves.

Like mother, like daughter.

The mother-daughter pair’s last outing came back in May when Griffith once again supported her daughter, this time at a screening of her film Materialists. On that occasion, both wore simple outfits with unusual sheer elements. Stella, Dakota’s half-sister and the daughter of Melanie and Antonio Banderas, Grace, the daughter of Dakota’s dad, Don Johnson, and his second wife, Kelly Phlegler, and Jesse, son of Don Johnson and Patti D’Arbanville, were also in attendance.

Prior to that, Griffith had supported Johnson at a 2021 screening of her film The Lost Daughter.

As Johnson previously told W Magazine, her parents initially “discouraged” her from acting. As Griffith explained to she was worried about her daughter entering such a notoriously difficult industry. “I knew how tough it was to navigate all of the aspects of filmmaking, and I hope she learned some good tips from me! I think she did,” Griffith said to Vanity Fair. “But it’s Dakota’s sense of self and her awareness of life, love and hard work that has gotten her through scary times.”

The pair rarely step out together on the red carpet.

Johnson co-stars in screwball comedy Splitsville alongside Adria Arjona. The pair play women dealing with their goofy other halves. The film lands in cinemas on August 22.
