Saturn and Uranus — the most disciplined and the most unpredictable of the planets, respectively — connect tonight, activating both your good judgment and your imagination. Essentially, this is the best of both worlds: You can make solid progress and have fun doing it. With Mercury retrograde ending today as well, you can set plans in motion now, trusting that your work ethic and resourcefulness will keep you on the right track.

Lately, it’s been easy to overestimate the currents of your life. If you have one good day, you might imagine that everything’s going to keep tracking upward forever — but more likely, if you have one bad day, you start worrying that you’re trapped in a downward spiral. In reality, of course, neither scenario is true; every day brings plenty of little ups and downs, and none of them are necessarily indicative of a larger trend. Today, just stay focused on your bigger goals, and don’t worry too much about the noise.

Today, it could be easy to second-guess every decision you’ve made recently. Maybe you’ve uncovered new information that prompts you to doubt yourself, or maybe there’s a part of you still considering alternative options. Quickly reassessing your choices might be useful right now, particularly if certain circumstances have changed, but be careful not to get dragged into a state of perpetual indecision. Being wishy-washy would be the worst thing you could do now; your imperative isn’t to continually tweak and optimize, but to simply pick a plan and stick to it.

You’re good at dealing with uncertainty — probably better than many of the people around you. You know how to navigate the unknown, finding humor and joy in even the strangest and most surprising circumstances. Sometimes, you worry that there’s something frivolous about your attitude, fearing that if you were a serious person, you’d be more rigid about sticking to your plans. But really, there’s no special virtue in inflexibility, and giving others reasons to laugh might be a surprisingly effective way to help everyone keep going.

It’s exciting to be in the position where you have many options to pick between; the more choices you have, the more of a say you have in the direction your life takes. At a certain point, though, weighing those options gets exhausting, particularly when there’s no obvious right choice. If you’ve been stressing yourself out over big decisions, it might be time to just pick something and run with it. There’s probably not a perfect option, and right now it’s more important to move forward.

When you’re not sure you’re on the right track, it’s hard to give your all. Part of you is always wondering whether you should be taking a different approach, or whether you might be happier in another job, another relationship, another life altogether. You might imagine that the reason you’re not getting the results you want is because you need to make a change — but it’s also possible that your slow progress is because you’ve always got one foot out the door. Today, see what happens if you fully commit.

There are seemingly endless minor tasks that need to get done; you could spend all your time taking care of the small stuff, and still never run out of things to do. There’s nothing wrong with tending to the details — somebody has to — just be careful that you aren’t using it as an excuse to avoid tackling bigger, more challenging projects. Today, especially, you’ll feel best if you take on something that demands more of you. You deserve a chance to put all your skills and intellect to work.

When you aren’t really sure about your own goals, it can be tempting to devote yourself to helping others achieve theirs. Playing an integral role in someone else’s success can be incredibly rewarding — just make sure, today, that you’re not shortchanging yourself in the process. If you’re neglecting your own dreams in order to play a supporting role in someone else’s life, or if you’re giving your all only to feel underappreciated, you’ll eventually end up resentful. The more you give to others, the more important it is for the relationship to be reciprocal.

Before you begin a new project, you want to be able to envision it in its entirety and plan it out from beginning to end. Some people seem happy to wing it, but you want to know exactly how you’ll get from point A to point B. But while this might always work with smaller projects, the truly ambitious ones require you to be okay with a bit of uncertainty. Today, try to trust that you don’t need to see the entire road ahead of you, and that all that matters is that you keep moving in the right (general) direction.

You’re good at giving advice to your friends — where they might become overwhelmed by petty details, seeing their problems at a bit of a remove gives you the perspective to notice solutions they might have missed. The trouble is that, by that same logic, it’s probably much harder to apply that wisdom to your own life. Today, if you’ve been struggling with seemingly insurmountable issues, try to imagine what you’d tell a friend in your position — and if that doesn’t work, ask someone you trust for their perspective.

You tend to find other people’s wishful thinking incredibly frustrating; in order to make progress, you know that it’s necessary first to confront the situation as it actually is, not as you’d ideally like it to be. But sometimes, in your efforts to see the world honestly, you swing too far to the side of pessimism. Today, remind yourself that accepting reality doesn’t mean refusing the possibility of change. You can be realistic about life as it is now, without letting it limit your imagination for the future.

Sometimes, there are good reasons why you can’t or shouldn’t take on a new challenge. If you’re already stretched to your breaking point, adding still more tasks to your plate is probably unwise; if you truly think a certain project is a bad idea, there’s no reason you should sign on to help. But there’s a difference between genuine reasons not to do something, and the excuses you come up with out of fear. Today, make sure that you’re listening to the former — and you’re probably better off disregarding the latter.

Trying to move too fast practically guarantees you’ll be disappointed. Challenging yourself a little bit is one thing, but pushing far past your own limits won’t help you grow; it’ll just be demoralizing. Today is a good time to rein yourself in if you’ve been taking on too much, too soon. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone else, so instead of exhausting yourself in an attempt to seem impressive, focus on finding a way to move forward that you’ll be able to sustain for the long haul.
